"The Crucible Foundry has become for me a centre for many of kinds of people to realise their ideas through transforming base metals. I believe craftsmanship needs to be practical and contributes to part of a rich life."    Damon Rawnsley (1953-2025)

We want help young sculptors and artists to make their work. We are working with other organisations to  help do that. Making sculpture in bronze is inherently expensive because of the materials, equipment and skills required. We hope that by providing awards that combine both financial assistance and practical training we can help artists to both make what they want get involved in the alchemy of casting.

Society of Portrait Sculptors

In memory of our dear friend and founder, Damon Rawnsley (1953–2025), The Crucible Foundry will cast the winning portrait head in bronze.

The winner has the opportunity to take part in the process (in its entirety or in part).  This is a wonderful opportunity for the winner to complete their work right through to the display-ready portrait head, supported by experienced artists and craftspeople .  Hands-on experience will include all the key stages of fine art bronze casting (such as mould making, working the wax, metal chasing and patination), plus observing the pouring of the bronze.

Category: Best three-dimensional human portrait head by a sculptor of 30 years old or under.
